Medical Education Planning
The situation
A number of factors contribute to the significant shortage of physicians in the United States, with some states and regions already being severely impacted. As a result, alternative strategies for increasing the supply of doctors is being considered. Government agencies and leading professional organizations are issuing recommendations for significant expansion of the nation’s heath professional educational delivery system. For instance, the Association of American Medical Colleges recommends that medical school enrollment expand by 30 percent by 2015.
